North Nashville is where the city’s dining scene has quietly caught up to its history — Germantown’s restored 19th-century blocks, the historic Nashville Farmers’ Market, the Tennessee State Museum, and a serious cluster of restaurants and breweries all a short drive from The Johnny & June. Downtown Broadway and Nissan Stadium are minutes away.

Nashville’s oldest neighborhood, quietly reborn. Germantown was Nashville’s first suburb — 18 city blocks of restored 1800s cottages, warehouses, and cotton mills, added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Salemtown, its quieter residential neighbor just north, is where The Johnny & June sits. Together with the broader North Nashville, they’re one of the city’s most interesting neighborhoods to spend a few days in.

Some of Nashville’s best restaurants sit right here. Germantown is a serious dining neighborhood — Rolf and Daughters (MICHELIN Guide 2025 Recommended), City House (2016 James Beard Best Chef: Southeast winner Tandy Wilson), Henrietta Red (Julia Sullivan), 5th & Taylor, and Von Elrod’s Beer Hall & Kitchen. The Adams Street stretch has become its own destination in the last few years — The Optimist, Indaco, Fishmonger, Charmers, and Close Company Bar are all here.

The Nashville Farmers’ Market is one of the best lunch spots in town. The 900 Rosa L. Parks Blvd market — traceable to an 1801 state statute — is open daily, with international food stalls (Green Asia, Bowl & Roll for Korean, Swagruha for Indian, Jamaicaway, Bella Nashville Pizzeria, and more), local growers, and shops. A short drive from The Johnny & June.

Historic anchors around every corner. Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park — 19 acres of monuments, fountains, and the WWII memorial — borders the neighborhood. The Tennessee State Museum (free admission, right next to the Farmers’ Market) is one of the best rainy-day options in the city. The Tennessee State Capitol sits just south. Historic Werthan Lofts (an 1871 cotton mill turned residential) anchors 8th Avenue.

A serious brewery neighborhood. Monday Night Brewing Preservation Co. (1308 Adams St), Bearded Iris Brewing (101 Van Buren St), TailGate Brewery Germantown (915 3rd Ave N, next to First Horizon Park), and Von Elrod’s Beer Hall & Kitchen are all in Germantown — a short drive from The Johnny & June and clustered close enough to hit multiple in an afternoon. Grab a Nashville Sounds game at First Horizon Park (right next to TailGate), then loop through the others by rideshare — a full evening plan without leaving North Nashville.

Close to First Horizon Park and Nashville Sounds games. First Horizon Park — home of the Nashville Sounds (AAA affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers) — is just south of the neighborhood. Grab dinner in the neighborhood, rideshare to first pitch, and skip the stadium parking. The Sounds season runs late March through September, and the park sits right next to the Adams Street dining strip — pre- or post-game plans are easy.

Close to downtown, Broadway, and everywhere else. The Johnny & June sits close to downtown Broadway — a short drive or rideshare. Bridgestone Arena, the Ryman Auditorium, and Nissan Stadium are all a quick ride away. BNA Airport is roughly 15 minutes; the Grand Ole Opry is a bit further east. Music Row — Nashville’s professional music-industry corridor — is a short rideshare from the neighborhood for guests in town on music business.

The Johnny & June welcomes dogs. The Johnny & June is pet-friendly with dedicated on-site parking. Central Dog Park — a fenced, off-leash Metro Parks facility that opened April 2024 at 1616 3rd Ave N, directly across from Morgan Park — is one of the closest dog parks to the neighborhood. Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park is a great leashed-dog option nearby.
